Miklós Jancsó has finished his 'Kapa-Pepe' sequel started in the early 90ies, lasted through six movies, and turning back to his classic style in his new film called Oda az igazság!(So Much for Justice!). The premise is about getting and keeping the power, the historic background is the period of King Matthias, 15th century, Hungary's most flourishing period. There are several sequences in the movie, the actors play more different roles.

After having a treatment, Kornél Mundruczó (Delta, Johanna, Pleasant Days) wrote a theatrical play in association with essayist-screenwriter Yvette Bíró in 2007 called The Frankenstein Plan. The story was inspired by Frankenstein of Mary Shelley, the basic idea was that the monster was replaced by a child, who returns home from a boarding school, struggling for the love of his family. In 2008 the play turned to a script.

The Miskolc International Festival of Young Filmmakers (CineFest) http://www.cinefest.hu/eng/versenyfilmek_eng.html announced his festival program. In the International competition / Jameson Long Feature Films section the visitors can see the award-winning film of Áron Mátyássy (Lost Times), the SACD Screenwriting Award in Cannes winning Lost Persons Area of Carloine Strubbe and the Moon of Duncan Jones, which won the Best New British Feature award in Edinbourgh.  

There were many candidates in this Summer to the title „The movie of the Summer”, the first of them was an adaptation of Dan Brown's novel: the Angels & Demons was watched by 185 000 Hungarian viewers, but the amount didn't reach finally the 300 000. The Terminator Salvation didn't conquer the Hungarian audience, after 7 weeks of suffering it got out of the Top 10, gathered an audience of 172 000. As the new Transformers movie (Revenge of the Fallen) was a huge success in America (so far it reached USD 400 million domestic grosses), in Hungary only the start was promising (96 000 attendance at the opening weekend), at the end the 200 000 remained just a dream.  

Though the market of the independent films has shrunk in Hungary, a new company arrived recently. After the SPI International Hungary left the market in 2009 and the distributional section of Budapest Film is also welcoming investors, surprisingly the Palace Pictures http://www.palacepictures.net/ launched distributional activity. The Palace Pictures is owned by the Palace Cinemas , which has an extended cinema network in Eastern Europe but the Palace Pictures doesn't distribute only for these venues.

Bunch of Hungarian films go to Montreal Film Festival, one of the 12 A category festivals in the world. The event starts at the 27th of August, and four feature and three short Hungarian movies were selected to the program.

In the first five month of 2009 the incomes of film distributors has grown 12% comparing to the same period of 2008 so it reached HUF 3.99 billion (EUR 14,7 million).

After the National Radio and Televison Comission (ORTT) http://ortt.hu/ two weeks ago suspended the broadcasting of one major Hungarian commercial TV channel RTL Klub http://rtlklub.hu/ for 12 hours, it sentenced today the same punishment for the other big commercial channel TV2 http://tv2.hu/.

After shooting in the Alps for three weeks, the new movie starring Nicolas Cage, Season of the Witch, has arrived to Hungary. They will be working on the movie here until February- told Film New Europe.

The Golden Reel, the main prize of the 40th Hungarian Film Week, was awarded to Lost Times, the debut feature of director Aron Matyassy.
