Production: Jancsó turning back to his own classic style

Miklós Jancsó has finished his 'Kapa-Pepe' sequel started in the early 90ies, lasted through six movies, and turning back to his classic style in his new film called Oda az igazság!(So Much for Justice!). The premise is about getting and keeping the power, the historic background is the period of King Matthias, 15th century, Hungary's most flourishing period. Production: Mundruczó meets Frankenstein

After having a treatment, Kornél Mundruczó (Delta, Johanna, Pleasant Days) wrote a theatrical play in association with essayist-screenwriter Yvette Bíró in 2007 called The Frankenstein Plan. The story was inspired by Frankenstein of Mary Shelley, the basic idea was that the monster was replaced by a child, who returns home from a boarding school, struggling for the love of his family. Miskolc announced line-up

The Miskolc International Festival of Young Filmmakers (CineFest) http://www.cinefest.hu/eng/versenyfilmek_eng.html announced his festival program. Summer box office in Hungary

There were many candidates in this Summer to the title „The movie of the Summer”, the first of them was an adaptation of Dan Brown's novel: the Angels & Demons was watched by 185 000 Hungarian viewers, but the amount didn't reach finally the 300 000. The Terminator Salvation didn't conquer the Hungarian audience, after 7 weeks of suffering it got out of the Top 10, gathered an audience of 172 000. As the new Transformers movie (Revenge of the Fallen) was a huge success in America (so far it reached USD 400 million domestic grosses), in Hungary only the start was promising (96 000 attendance at the opening weekend), at the end the 200 000 remained just a dream.   tovább

Newcomer in the Hungarian distribution

Though the market of the independent films has shrunk in Hungary, a new company arrived recently. After the SPI International Hungary left the market in 2009 and the distributional section of Budapest Film is also welcoming investors, surprisingly the Palace Pictures http://www.palacepictures.net/ launched distributional activity. The Palace Pictures is owned by the Palace Cinemas , which has an extended cinema network in Eastern Europe but the Palace Pictures doesn't distribute only for these venues. tovább

Helen Mirren is shooting in Budapest

John Madden is currently making his new movie The Debt for Miramax. Several of his scenes are filmed right here in Budapest. The picture is the remake of the 2007 Israeli film Ha-Hov. In the Academy Award winner line-up we will find Helen Mirren, Tom Wilkinson and Sam Worthington as well. The movie shoot is going to take place on multiple-city axel: Tel-Aviv, London, and Budapest. Robert Koltai and his crew held a press conference revealing details about the pre-production works of his new comedy, Magic boys (working title). Allegedly, the action comedy that takes place in Hungary and England as well, is going to be shot over the summer of 2009. Tarantino’s big favourite, Michael Madsen is playing an American bad boy who gets entangled in a big scheme business fraud. The agreement on irish-hungarian coproductions will be signed on the 7th of February in the Collegium Hungarikum in Berlin, during the Berlinale festival.

The European Union allows a program of 231 million Euros supporting the Hungarian motion-picture industry

According to the legislation of the European Union, the European Commission allows a program of 231 million Euros supporting the Hungarian motion-picture industry.

This program – that lasts until 31st December 2013 – includes the whole of the supports for the Hungarian motion-picture industry, as well as all tax benefits. tovább
