Vilmos Zsigmond will get a prize for his work as a cinematographer on the 10th Hollywood Filmfestival – said the Variety. The 50th anniversary of the Revolution 1956 will be on the 23rd October. Foreign productions in Hungary

Producer László Sipos attracted two new foreign productions to Hungary: Living Neon Dreams, a modern version of Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland and Amsterdamned a crime story taking place in the Dutch capital.

Both films will be produced by the London based Michael Tarr, who is of Hungarian descant, and co-produced by the Hungarian László Sipos, whose company, Hungarian Film Connection will provide 20 percent of production costs, 2.25 billion HUF. tovább

The modification of the Film Law approved by the Parliament on February 13 entered into force on April 1.

The motion picture legislation passed by a unanimous vote in 2004 was modified in areas including film rights, incompatibility regulations, the activities of the Film Office, the coproduction score system and the maximum amount of state support for films. tovább

André Szőts passed away

The Hungarian born producer left Hungary in 1956 for good. He first worked in advertising and banking, both of which proved to be preparation for becoming a film producer. He finally opted for film while shooting a commercial in December 1969.

Although André Szőts has directed and produced more than 220 commercials and videos – for Hungarian television, Antenne2 and FR3 among others – he earned his first major success in Hungary in 1990 with producing the French feature Cyrano de Bergerac which was nominated for the Oscars in five categories, among others Gerard Depardieu for best actor in a leading role. tovább

The shooting of Béla Tarr’s film, The Man from London is under way again, the production has informed the press. The shooting is expected to finish by the end of the year.

Miroslav Krobot, Tilda Swinton, János Derzsi, Ági Szirtes and Gyula Pauer play the major roles in front of Fred Kelemen’s camera. The international coproduction partners include Hungarian, French and German companies. The Transformation of the Hungarian Cinema Market

It’s fall, yet cinemas, especially multiplex theaters are far from being full. Cinemagoing is on the decline  - not only in Hungary, but in Europe and America as well.

The attendance numbers of Hungarian films have decreased, too, compared to the level of the previous year. However, art cinemas have managed to retain their position and even strenghtened in the countryside. Gergely Pohárnok has been chosen for the title best cinematographer of the year by the Hungarian Society of Cinematographers (HSC).

The movie with the international title Csoma Legendárium (Az élet vendége) is expected to arouse interest internationally.
