Hajdu in Production with The Gambler

Hungarian director and writer Szabolcs Hajdu in mid-production with The Gambler, the follow-up to his 2010 film Bibliotheque Pascal, Hungary's candidate for the foreign language Oscar in 2011.

Hajdu sets his new film in Las Vegas, with dialogue in Romanian and English. The main characters are a wealthy East European family who loose their dignity in the U.S., set against the world of casinos. Hajdu adapted the story from a novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

The estimated $750,000 film has $300,000 in U.S. backing along with private Hungarian investment. The film completed a 20-day shoot in Las Vegas. The producers are Andrea Taschler of Mirage Film Studio and Zoltan Milkos Hajdu. The coproducer is Got Films (U.S.A.). The film is scheduled for completion in December 2012.

The Gambler is Hajdu's sixth feature film. He is also in preproduction on Mirage, the story of an African football player living in a small Hungarian town.
