Kenyeres Balint in Pre-production with Hier

21 March, 2012 - filmhu

Hungarian director Kenyeres Balint will shoot his first feature, Hier, in Morroco for seven weeeks and in Hungary for one week fall 2012. The project received 515,000 Euro (150 million HUF) from the Hungarian National Film Fund in February.
The original title is Tegnap, but Bálint prefers to call it by the French "Hier" in order to avoid Yesterday "because of connotations," he told FNE.

Kenyeres wrote the original script with Tamás Beregi, András Forgach and Eva Zabezsinszkij. The story concerms a 50-year-old man who owns an engineering company and who arrives on business in North Africa. He is confronted with memories of his youth which, together with the reappearance of a past love, put him into a labyrinth where present and past intertwine. The dialogue is in French, English and Arabic.

The project is a co-production between Attila Csáky of Hungary's Cameo Film, François d'Artemare of France's Les Films de L'Après-midi, and Anna Croneman of Bob Film Sweden. It is supported by the Hungarian National Film Fund, the Hungarian Ministry of National Resources, CNC France, MEDIA Programme, and the Sweden's Film i Väst. Hier was selected for l'Atelier de Cannes in 2011.

The director told FNE that they are "just finalizing the budget of 2.4 million Euro," The international cast includes Maurice Benichou, Jesper Christensen, Vlad Ivanov, Nastassja Kinski and Stellan Skarsgård. Mátyás Erdély (Delta) is the DOP.

The start of film "is not decided yet, mostly depending on the actors' availability," Kenyeres told FNE. Postproduction will be split between Hungary, France and Sweden, with the premiere set for 2013.
