Buda Castle

The Buda Castle and the royal palace within it was founded in the 13th century, and was rebuilt several times in the Middle Ages. It had served as a royal seat until the Turkish occupation. The current, 18th-century Classicist palace building was enlarged at the end of the 19th century based on the designs of Miklós Ybl and Alajos Hauszmann. It was badly damaged during WW2, but has been renovated, although in a simpler form. Inside Castle Hill, there is a cave system.
