The „Socialist Realist”-style experimental Óbuda housing project was built between 1958 and 1964. This was the testing ground for mass housing construction. At the busiest junction of the district, Flórián square and its environs, 13,000 new apartments were built in three phases, primarily 10-storey rows of buildings. The remains of the Roman settlement of Aquincum are located nearby. There are relatively few parks in the residential area.
