Szentendre, downtown
A Serbian population fleeing the Turks settled here in the 17th century. Its present cityscape was formed in the 18th century, in the wake of rapid industrialization. The historic pedestrian zones, cafés and the nicely restored single-storey buildings attract tourists. It has become a significant artistic center during the 20th century.
