Sluice, Csepel Island

In the southern part of Budapest, the Danube forms a 60-km long island named Csepel. The 75-meter-wide Kvassay sluice was built between 1910 and 1914 at the 1642nd kilometer section of the river. Its main tasks include facilitating ship traffic, providing water for the Soroksár section of the Danube and preventing floods. The size of the largest ship that can pass through the sluice is 1,000 tons.
