With its 17-km stretch, this is the longest metro line in Budapest. Its first section between Deák square and Nagyvárad square was opened in 1976, followed by the section between Kispest and Élmunkás square in 1981. Today it connects the southern and northern parts of Pest, passing through the most important downtown junctions.
