The crew of A Kind of America (Hu: Valami Amerika) was shooting in New York.

Producer-director Gabor Herendi has just recently arrived back home from the New York set of A Kind of America 2, where he and his crew were shooting the sequel to the movie for three long days.

At the end of A Kind of America, the heroes Alex and Timi take off to an ‘undisclosed destination‘… after this, in the sequel their friends find them in New York. These scenes were shot throughout June 26-28 at various New York locations such as Brooklyn, Manhattan, Broadway and 57th Street. So the outside American scenes of the movie are all authentic while the indoor sets were put together back home, in the studio. The pictures snatched at the New York set were uploaded to the server of Flickr, the image and video sharing website by one of its users, Tracy Murphy who also made sure we at Filmhu had the pics as well

No matter how much the crew wanted to keep every single detail of the sequel and its movie shoot under the hat, this tiny detail did end up leaking out. Since the audience is already familiar with the characters from A Kind of America 1 and with the general atmosphere (the sequel is not at all unlike the first part) - as long as the director Gabor Herendi has a say, any further information about the movie is to remain completely confidential for it is the storyline and the unexpected turns themselves that provide the excitement and suspense for the sequel- as put by the director. Beside Herendi, screen wrights Reka Divinyi and Gabor Harmat are credited for their work in writing the screenplay.

And as far as some of the new characters are concerned, about the mob father, played by Imre Csuja, and about his daughter, played by Katya Tompos, unfortunately we just could not learn anything else since the director thought even such information would give away too much of the story.  However, we were able to figure out as much as the character of a salsa teacher living in Hungary and struggling with the language, played by the American actress, Lucia Brawley who we have already met in Lora, Herendi Gabor’s previous movie.

Balazs Marton is the photagrapher while Istvan Kiraly is the editor for the movie. Apart from the new characters mentioned earlier the heroes from the first A Kind of America such as Tibor Szervét (Alex), Csaba Pindroch (Tamás), Győző Szabó (Ákos), Ferenc Hujber (András), Eszter Ónodi (Eszter), and Szonja Oroszlán (Timi) will all be appearing in the sequel (VA2).

As of today, 2/3 of the movie has been shot already and there are only 9 days remaining from the 34-day shooting. Some of the longer takes were shot at Eszter’s apartment and at Old Man’s Music Pub known as the gang’s favourite hideout from the first film. Also, work will continue at an abandoned location of the historical Torley Champagne Factory site in Budafok as well.

According to the producer-director the budget of the movie might be shifting from 320 million up to 350 million HUF of which merely 91 million is provided by the MMK (Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary). The latter is broken down as follows: 30 million for assorted feature film financing and 31 million as an after-project normative funding related to the movie Lora. Acquiring funds for the remaining needs had to be taken care of by Skyfilm, the film maker company using various outside sources. The director says that the material on rolls is utterly ‘rich’, they have shot far more footage than for the first A Kind of America (VA), however, there will be less time for after works like editing and such since the premier date is coming up- it is set for 18 December. Gabor Herendi thinks they are right on schedule still. A fund of 231 million Euro was granted for the Hungarian movie industry.
