The European Film Academy announced the the list of the competitors for European Film Awards, and the Hungarian film is represented by the debut film of Viktor Oszkár Nagy, The Father's Acre (Apaföld). The film was awarded in the 40. Hungarian Film Festival (Filmszemle) by the Gene Moskowitz Award, given by foreign critics. The story is about the relationship of an ex-con and his son, the Oedipus-like, sort of mythical story is placed to the everyday life of Hungary at the early 90ies.

The pacing is quite slow, the cinematographic style of Nagy is basicly influenced by Béla Tarr, István Gaál, though quite unique. The director of photography Tamás Dobos created a poetic yet very tangible visual world.

The film is produced by EuropaFilm Studio (http://www.kftv.com/company-10475.html), the producer is Péter Miskolczi. The Father's Acre has such opponents like the Antichrist of Lars Von Trier, the Let the Right One In of Tomas Alfredson, The Academy Award winner Slumdog Millionaire of Danny Boyle or The Broken Embraces of Pedro Almodovar.
