The Variety has recently reported that Eva Green signed the contract for the role of the female lead for Benedek Fliegauf’s new picture, Womb. The movie production is going to set off on the shores of the Nordic Sea in Germany as early as this March.

“Womb is one of the most captivating and mesmerizing love stories I have recently had the pleasure of tumbling upon”- explained Michael Webber, the managing director of Match Factory, the company responsible for the international distribution of the movie.

The script itself made it as far as Cannes last year and was a runner up in the L’Atelier category. It was even picked up by the Scrip Teast program which is a major platform for Eastern and Central European scripts and their writers towards becoming part of the international movie scene. No wonder, it was close to everybody’s heart. This is how some described the movie: “The film raises certain moral and ethical questions on the subject of human cloning but it does it through a sensitive, down-to-earth personal tale that pulls you in without mercy until you find yourself in the intimate world of the heroes where you experience every aspect of their very human dilemmas first hand just as if they were your own. Womb is highly likely to become a deeply stirring piece, one that will not be easily shrugged off or forgotten but one to provoke passionate debates on its way up.

Playing a heroine of an extraordinary love story is not something that comes hard for the actor. Take for example Bertolucci’s The Dreamers and even more so her lesbian character in the new film Cracks, the movie that is in its post production phase as we speak. Not to mention the double role she takes on in the dystopian fantasy, Franklyn, coming to theatres this year.

The synopsis seems clean cut: the widow, played by Green, makes a decision to clone her deceased husband thus giving him his life back. The husband is played by a popular TV show actor, Matt Smith who is also the next new signed star of the cultic show Dr Who, (taking over from the current lead, David Tennant in 2010). The Movie is produced by Inforg Studio and its trade mark entity Andras Muhi. The producer seat is shared with Razor Film Produktion Company that was also part of delivering such movies as Waltz in Bashir and Paradise Now.

As slashfilm.com puts it in one of their articles: the Womb might be able to elaborate on certain questions that have been just swept under the carpet by the recent production, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The budget of the Womb reaches 3.1 million Euros and the final take should be wrapped up by the end of April.

Flieagauf is a first timer working with an international star ensemble- his male lead is Matt Smith.

We were able to get Benedek Fliegauf, even if only for a mini interview:

Filmhu: Who came up with the idea of trying to get Eva Green for the role?
Benedek Fliegauf: Actually, it was Cedomir Collar, the French producer who mentioned first that when reading the book he could not help but see Eva Green as the hero. And soon, when I was reading the book myself, I absolutely agreed with him- I, too started seeing Eva.

Filmhu:But why her? What does she bring that no one else, and fit the role, the whole concept so well?
B.F.: Eva is an intelligent, beautiful and reserved girl- exactly like our character.

Filmhu:Do you think you will have enough time for preparations, rehearsals before shooting?
B.F.: Yes, I do.

Filmhu:What was it like for you all of a sudden to work with international stars? You know. After all these years of working with a tight, intimate circle of friends?
B.F.: It was truly thrilling.

Filmhu:How is the pre-production coming along?
B.F.: We have been doing great, thank you.

Filmhu:As regards to your visual delivery, would you say it is going to be similar to Milky Way, more conventional or just the opposite -groundbreaking?
B.F.: Womb is a traditional love story, whereas Milky Way was a conventional experimental movie. However, you will find a lot of similarities between them. At least I hope so.
