Béla Tarr in MoMA

The Museum of Modern Art in New York is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the American premiere of Satan's Tango (Sátántangó), Béla Tarr' masterpiece. The screenings started in the 22th of October, the audience two days later watch again the 15 years old, 450 minutes long opus magnum from the original reels owned by the MoMA.

Jytte Jensen, curator of MoMA requested the director Tarr to make a compilation for the jubilee, and he chose some of those which inspired him and which were made in his production studio TT Filmműhely (http://www.cegtudor.hu/ceginfo.aspx?id=8293) like The Hopeless Ones (Szegénylegények) of Miklós Jancsó, American Torso (Amerikai anzix) of Gábor Bódy, Passion (Szenvedély) of Fehér György, Johanna of Kornél Mundruczó, The Death Rode Out of Persia (A halál kilovagolt Perzsiából) of Putyi Horváth. The American Torso, first feature of Gábor Bódy (1946-1985) from 1975 is introduced to the audience by Tarr himself before the screening.

The show is presented by MoMA, TT Filmműhely, the Extremely Hungary organised by Hungarian Cultural Centre New York, the Palisades Tartan distributor company, and the Magyar Filmunió.
