Open letter to the prime minister - battle for the Hungarian film funding

16 November, 2010 - Zsolt Gyenge
The battle around the planned but still unclear restructuration of the Hungarian film funding continues. The public funding for Hungarian film productions should continue to go to the Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary – this is the goal of the Association of Hungarian Film Artists with their open letter to prime minister Viktor Orbán, published on 16th of November. They consider that it is important for the future of Hungarian cinema that the funding go through MMKA.

In fact the Association tries only to convince the government to honour a contract which is valid until 2013, and based on which MMKA should get 6 billion HUF in 2011. The Association also criticizes the fact that – as we have written previously – in the plan of the state budget for 2011 only 1 billion HUF is allocated to MMKA, whilst 2 billion goes to the Ministry of National Economy for the funding of the Hungarian film.
