Coming up: the Largest Hungarian Film Studio

Hungary’s largest film studio, Stern Film Studio & Media Center is scheduled to open in September 2004 in Pomáz, north of Budapest with the aim of providing a shooting location that meets the demands of both local and international filmmakers. Stern Film will offer Hungarian and international productions two soundstages and auxiliary buildings (production offices, make-up rooms, dressing rooms, set construction and costume workshops, restaurants, truck and trailer parking, etc.).

The management of Stern Film hopes to provide beneficial working conditions at the Pomáz ’film factory’, which can become a center of filmmaking in Hungary. The facilities currently under construction will be twice as big as Mafilm’s 1,000-square-meter Máriássy and Huszárik sound stages – Hungary’s largest such facilities to date.

The Pomáz facility will also house a 1,000-square-meter set, costume and paint workshop, a warehousing unit, along with well-equipped offices, lounges, dressing and make-up rooms. The restaurant opening on the premises will offer a variety of menus, also keeping vegetarians in mind.

In addition to the studio, Stern Film will also operate a film school, where students can learn the use of the latest technologies along with computer and Internet skills and can also put their newly acquired knowledge into practice. The teachers will be renown members of the Hungarian and international film industry, the courses will be held in English and Hungarian. The aim of the Stern Film School is to train its students according to international standards.
