Festival: Krisztina Esztergályos wins Silver Leopard in Locarno
The Variations, the 28 minutes long diploma short of director Krisztina Esztergályos won the Silver Leopard in Locarno. The decision of the jury (Céline Bolomey, Denis Delcampe, Maike Mia Höne, Najwa Najjar, Adrian Sitaru) was celebrated by 10 000 festival visitors in Piazza Grande, Locarno.
The film is about variations of relationships in abandoned block-house hotel built in the 80ies, at New Years Eve. The film was made in the co-oproduction of University of Theatre, Film and Television (http://engine.szinhaz.hu/index.php?id=2019) and Cinema Film (http://www.cinemafilm.hu/english/main.html), producers Miklós Bosnyák, Gábor Garami.
Esztergályos originally intended to make an adaptation of an American novel, but she couldn't get the rights of it. So she was making som journeys at the shore of Lake Balaton, and at Siófok she just found the building of the hotel which inspired her to write a new story. The shooting was in Winter, and the hotel was opened only for this reason.
