New leadership for the MMKA from 2010
The mandate of the leadership (trustees and president) of the Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary (MMKA, www.mmka.hu) is going to get expired at the 31st of December 2009, so new election is necessary. At the Summer session of the meeting of the founders (also have the rights of electing the new leadership) a committee was established to put together all the tasks and problems of the organization, and collect all the suggestions on the new leadership.
There's a document which contains all the considerations and the platform of the five president candidates. Which are: Ferenc Tolvaly, producer András Muhi, writer, scriptwriter Zoltán Kőrösi, producer Andrew G. Vajna, director Béla Tarr.
The collected problems and challenges are the next:
- the cooperation with the TVs is not efficient enough
- the distribution of films doesn't work good
- the network of the art house cinemas is getting in a worse and worse position, so the admission of them and the Hungarian film is getting fewer and fewer
- the ownership of the filmvagyon is not clear
- the legal changes are very important: the film law, the media law, the founding okirat of the MMKA should be adjusted to the new challanges, new technical and media environment (internet, digital broadcasting etc.), new goals.
The date of the election is not known yet.
