Production: Mundruczó meets Frankenstein

15 September, 2009 - filmhu

After having a treatment, Kornél Mundruczó (Delta, Johanna, Pleasant Days) wrote a theatrical play in association with essayist-screenwriter Yvette Bíró in 2007 called The Frankenstein Plan. The story was inspired by Frankenstein of Mary Shelley, the basic idea was that the monster was replaced by a child, who returns home from a boarding school, struggling for the love of his family. In 2008 the play turned to a script.

It will be a „contemporary dark story”, as the filmmaker sais. The main role is going to be played by that 19 years old kid Rudolf Frecska, grown up in a boarding school as well, who was playing it in the theatre, other roles will be played by Kitty Csíkos, Lili Monori, Miklós Székely B., and the director will play also. The film is in production of Proton Cinema (http://www.protoncinema.hu/), the producer is Viktoria Petrányi. There are several co-producers also: Susanne Marian (Essential Filmproduktion http://cineuropa.org/prodcompany.aspx?documentID=26061), Gábor Kovács and Ági Pataki (Filmpartners http://www.filmpartners.hu/), Gabriele Kranzelbinder (KGP Produktion http://www.kgp.co.at/index.php), Gábor Sipos (Laokoon Film http://www.laokoonfilm.com/). The shooting has started already, though the main part of it will be in the Winter of this year the. The Frankenstein Plan is planned to be released in 2010.

The film was supported by the Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungarian, in 2008 HUF 4 million (EUR 14800) for development, in 2009 HUF 146 million (EUR 540 000) for production.
