The Parliament building designed by Imre Steindl stands next to the Danube. It was built in Eclectic style between 1885 and 1904. The two wings (the lower and the upper house) are connected by an enormous dome. The two-storey structure is decorated by laced Gothic towers, arcades and windows. Its facade facing the Danube is more unified while the facade towards Kossuth square is more structured because of the entrance. The richly decorated stairwell, the dome chamber, the frescoes, scultpures, gilded stuccos, chandeliers and marble covers of the interior render the building sumptuous and majestic.
